THE BIO

Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly comes from North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a deep-rooted love for family law, Ashley's current legal practice revolves around various aspects of family issues. She focuses her practice on divorce cases, alimony issues marital property division, child custody battles and child support arrangements. She also handles post-divorce and enforcement issues as well as step-parent adoptions, private adoptions for parties as and concerns regarding child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning issues, such as probate, wills, trusts, and estate administration, along with commercial contracts, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been a mediator appointed by the court since 2019. She assists parties to resolve their disputes without the necessity of litigation or court involvement. In addition to court-appointed mediation, Ashley also mediates in private cases for people who would prefer to avoid the litigation and court process.

After finishing her undergraduate education at Loyola University of Maryland, where she earned dual bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was ranked among the top 10 students of her class. Ashley was an editor at the Western New England Law Review during her time at law school. This proved her dedication to legal research and scholarship.

Ashley began her clerkship career after she completed her law degree. She worked for distinguished jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of being a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. Then, in 2014 she returned home to her hometown of Hagerstown to work as a clerk for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long at the Washington County Circuit Court, deepening her understanding of the local legal landscape. Learn more about Ashley Wilburn

In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. as an associate attorney. Her primary focus at the firm involved representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases concerning child welfare. Through her tireless efforts, Ashley played a vital role in assisting children who were victims of neglect or abuse at the parent or caregivers. Her commitment to social justice spanned far beyond the legal realm as she actively served as an officer of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, working diligently to raise awareness about human trafficking in the tristate area.

In 2017, she became a founding member of Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., where she developed her practice in the areas of family law including divorce child support, custody and guardianships - as well for estate planning, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directive/healthcare proxies and mediation.

Ashley started Wilburn Law Office, LLC 2023 with the goal of providing an individual approach to each client's needs.
